The Acer TravelMate B (TMB115-MP-C23C) ($ 379.99 as tested) is a budget ultraportable laptop aimed at both business and consumer users. Powered by a quad-core Intel Celeron processor and weigh less than 3 pounds, it is a completely portable companion. It is a great choice if you do not want to spend a lot of money, but you still need a traditional Windows laptop with some forward-looking features, such as a touch screen.
Design and Features
The TravelMate B $ 382.99 on Amazon is a compact polycarbonate chassis measuring 0.83 by 11.5 by 8.5 inches (HWD) and weighs 2.89 pounds light. It is easy to hold, and if you use it in an airline seat in coach you do not have to worry if the passenger in front of you recline their seats. May 1366-by-768-resolution LCD screen with good, but not great, image quality, which is par for the price range of the 11.6-inch screen. The viewing angle is pretty narrow. It is similar in size to the budget competitors like the Acer Aspire E3-111-C1BW and HP Stream 11 (11-d020nr) Best Price at Amazon. Unlike its more colorful competition, the TravelMate B sticks a black-matte finish on all surfaces.
This ultraportable is a smidge pricier than other budget laptop, but that is because it has a 10-point touch screen, a rarity in the second $ 500 system. The screen responds quickly to press input, just as wide, one-piece touchpad. The chiclet-style keyboard is comfortable and responsive. The key has a rougher texture, which helps to prevent your fingers from sliding off.
Connectivity is good, with an Ethernet port, an HDMI port, an SD card slot, two USB 2.0 ports, and a USB 3.0 port. Acer includes an HDMI-to-VGA adapter, in case you need to hook up with an older monitor. The pier, as well as the power adapter jack, mostly on the back of the chassis, so you'll have to reach around the screen to connect your peripherals. That's pretty convenient if you tend to plug and unplug multiple devices in your system. The speaker put sufficient amount of volume, enough for watching TV shows in a small room. The 802.11a / b / g / n Wi-Fi can connect to both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, and the system has Bluetooth 4.0 for wireless connectivity.
The 4GB of memory and 500GB, 5,400rpm hard drive is more memory and storage than you'll find in the budget ultraportable Choice current editor ', the HP Stream 13 (13-c020nr) $ 199.99 on Amazon, although the latter is $ 150 cheaper. The 4GB of memory is enough for minimal multitasking, and 500GB is a lot of storage for local files such as videos and photos. There are several additional programs, including Booking.com, Dropbox, Evernote, flipbook, Foxit PhantomPDF, Pokki Start Menu, and Skype. Budget about a half hour to an hour to remove the ones you do not use. The system has a 2-year warranty, which is twice as long as its rivals.
