2Go Convertible NL4 Classmate PC

2Go Convertible NL4 Classmate PC

If you need a laptop for your children in grades K-8, the 2go Convertible Classmate PC NL4 might be just the thing for you. One of the last holdouts for almost dead netbook category, which is largely replaced by cheap laptop tablet hybrids and Web-centric Chromebooks, elementary and middle school classroom is one of the few places where the mediocre performance and smaller size of the 10-inch netbook poses no problem. The NL4 classmate PC is also manufactured to withstand the unique rigors that only small children can provide, while also offering a range of educational features you will not find anywhere else.

design
The NL4 classmates were developed for classroom, an environment filled with unique needs and challenges. The little convertible laptop is made for kids, for use in the classroom, out on a field trip, and after school for homework. Accordingly, the design is kid-friendly, with a keyboard that is slightly smaller than the full-size, but just right for smaller hands. The NL4 is also ruggedized, with a scratch-resistant touch screen, a spill resistant keyboard, and an optional anti-microbial protection, with a plastic chassis that can be wiped down without worry.

The NL4 design is feasible, with a rotating touch screen that can be used with either laptop or tablet mode. The chunky plastic exterior has a textured finish for easier gripping, and a built in handle on the back side for easy carrying. The capacitive touch screen can be used with either a finger or stylus, and the included stylus can be tethered to the laptop and stowed in a built in storage space, making it much less likely that the stylus is lost , misplaced, or otherwise disappear.

The 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen, an upgrade from the resistive touch screen on previous 2go Convertible Classmate PC NL3 offers a common 1,366-by-768 resolution, and can track up to five touch inputs at once. The speakers are mediocre at best, with no bass (Silent Shout The Knife lost it's bass-heavy intro completely) and quiet but buzzy speaker.

In the left corner of the rotating display or three physical buttons: Rotation Lock and Volume Up and Down. In front of the display, the lower bezel, is a Power Button and a Button Windows, both protected behind a layer of flexible plastic.

Measuring 1.7 by 10.6 by 8.5 inches (HWD) and weighing 3.6 pounds, the NL4 classmate PC is very portable, but it was the chunky side. A built-in handle makes it easy to bring along, and the ruggedized kid-proof design also means you can throw it in a book bag without concern.

The keyboard, with its kid-sized chiclet keys, is really one of the most disappointing aspects of the device. In the test, the keyboard often fails to register deliberate keystrokes, and require individual key a fair amount of strength as you type. The result is a keyboard that can deter students to type quickly, and may actually hinder students just learning to type.
