Dell Inspiron 15 Non-Touch (3531)

If you're looking for a basic desktop-replacement laptop for your day-to-day computing chores, but have limited funds, the Dell Inspiron 15 Non-Touch ($ 249.99) is a good bet. Powered by an Intel Celeron processor and 4GB of memory, this 15-inch notebook has enough power to handle things like e-mail, Web surfing and office work at home, and it'll give you more six hours of battery life. It can not be displayed in full HD (1080p) and is lacking a LAN port, but if you can live with the limitations of the Inspiron 15 Non-Touch is a great deal.

Design and Features
This version of the Inspiron 15 looks exactly like last year's Editors Choice ', the Dell Inspiron 15 (6190 I15RV-BLK). Its texture, black finish is the kind of solid look and feel you'd expect from a more expensive model. Although it can not match the current crop of Ultrabooks in terms of portability, 1 by 15 by 10.2 inches (HWD) and 4.7 pounds, it is light enough for short jaunts and room-to-room trip anyway.

Under cover texture is a 15.6-inch screen and a spacious keyboard deck. 1366-by-768 resolution display is low compared with some hi-res screens we're seeing these days, like 3k (2880-by-1620) display used in the Maingear Pulse 15, but we're talking talk about a $ 250 laptop compared to a $ 2,300 notebook. Although the Inspiron 15 screen display HD content at 1080p, making it a good job of displaying 720p content and delivers crisp colors. Glossy screen coating can be reflective, though. A webcam and microphone embedded in the bezel above the display.

You can not find any backlighting with chiclet-style keyboards, but it has a firm feel, and the keys are responsive and efficient space. There numeric keypad on the right. The wrist rest sports the same texture as the end cap and an oversized contains two large touchpad and mouse buttons. Like the keyboard, the touchpad is responsive, and it offers plenty of room for the conduct of Windows 8 gestures, such as swiping, zooming, and scrolling.

On the left side of the chassis is the power jack, an HDMI port, two USB ports, and a headphone jack. The USB port on this model are a variety of 2.0, while the Dell I15RV BLK-6190 has four USB ports (two 3.0 and two 2.0). Also missing is a LAN port, which is surprising, and an optical drive, which is not, given the rock-bottom price of the laptop. Dell 1506 Wireless Adapter provides 802.11 b / g / n Wi-Fi networking, and a 4-in-1 card reader embedded in the lower front edge of the chassis.

The Inspiron 500GB hard drive spins at 5,400rpm and is full of Windows 8.1 with Bing and the small number of test applications, including Microsoft Office and McAfee LiveSafe 365. There are also apps for shopping sites, such as Amazon, eBay, and Shop Dell, as well as some Dell utility, such as Backup and Recovery and PC checkup. Covered Dell Inspiron 15 with a one-year warranty that includes a full year of renovation (after remote diagnosis) and 90 days of Premium 24/7 phone support.
