Lenovo G40
Not everyone has the need (or money) for a powerful desktop-replacement laptop, especially if you're only going to use it for things like email, viewing photos, and evaluating your Facebook page. For this work, a $ 249.99 (as tested) as Lenovo G40 laptop will suffice. The 14-inch system is capable Celeron processor and will give you around six hours of battery life, but it is hindered by a small hard drive and a miserly configuration memory. If you can find an extra $ 200 in your budget, the Dell Inspiron 5000 Series 17 Non-Touch offers better performance and more powerful feature set.
Design and Features
0.98 by 15.1 by 10.4 inches (HWD), the 5.5-pound G40 is a bit too big for airline travel but have no moving it from room to room. Its textured matte-black chassis is plastic but sturdy feel and do not show the fingerprint smudges. Under the lid is a glossy 14-inch display with resolution 1366-by-768-framed by glossy-black bezels. The screen is bright, and color quality is good, as long as you do your viewing angle around 50 degrees from the center. At that point, start color to move, and the picture becomes washed out. The panel will not display high-definition 1080p, but displays sharp, detailed 720p video.
The full-size, island-style keyboard Type Accu have hard feeling and spacious keys that provide a comfortable typing experience, but there is no room for a number pad here. Touchpad is in a small portion (3.5 by 1.8 inches) and with two mouse buttons deliver a barely audible click when pressed. Pad is responsive, and despite its diminutive size, offers easy gesturing. The speakers embedded in the base of the powerful, but a tad trebly.
The G40 is not exactly full of features. Like the Dell Inspiron 15 Non-Touch (3531), it lacks an optical drive, but its 320GB hard drive is smaller than the Dell Inspiron 15 Non-Touch 500GB, and it only has 2GB of system memory (Dell 15 non-Touch has 4GB). However, it has a LAN port, while the Dell 15 Non-Touch is not. Port The G40 includes HDMI and VGA video output, two USB 2.0 ports, one USB 3.0 port, a headphone jack, and a 2-in-1 card reader. It has Wi-Fi b / g / n and Bluetooth-enabled and has a 720p webcam embedded in the top of the screen bezel.
The G40 has Windows 8.1 and mixed Bing Lenovo-branded apps, including Photo Master Lenovo, Lenovo PowerDVD10, and Lenovo ShareIt, which lets you easily share files on your smartphone. It also has software Power2Go Cyberlink PowerDirector and the trial version of Microsoft Office and McAfee LiveSafe 365, and eBay and Amazon shopping apps. Lenovo covers the G40 with one-year warranty.
