Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro (VN7-591G-70JY)

Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro (VN7-591G-70JY)
The Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro (VN7-591G-70JY) ($ 1,799.99 as tested) is a midrange gaming laptop to update the cheaper Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro (VN7-591G-75S2) $ 999.99 at Beach Trading Co. . (BeachCamera.com, BuyDig.com) with a new high-resolution display 4K, more storage, and extra RAM. The price will rise accordingly, placing them in the same range as the Editors' Choice Asus GS60 Ghost Pro 3k $ 1,974.99 on Amazon. But how does it stack up with the new hardware and price tag? Not as well as we would expect.

Design
V 15 Nitro $ 1,799.99 at Amazon could bring price midrange, but from the outside, it looks a lot like the entry-level Acer VN7-591G-75S2. Chassis are identical, measuring 0.94 by 15.3 by 10.1 inches (HWD) and weighs 5.3 pounds. It's not as slim and light as MSI Ghost Pro (0.8-inch thick and 4.4 pounds) or th`e vision HP 15 HP $ 1,599.99 (0.8-inch thick and 4.7 pounds), but it is slimmer than the MSI Apache GE62 $ 1,279.94 at Amazon (1.14 inches thick and 5.16 pounds). Laptop has an internal metal frame, with plastic chassis and cover. The cover has the same matte-black color of the chassis, but also a sharp texture across the cover. Bare metal hinge, with "Seek Nitro V" stamped on it.

The 15.6-inch display is a wonderful 4K panel with 3840-by-2160 resolution. Incompetent touch, but it's a step up from even the 2880-by-1620 MSI Ghost Pro screen. The screen features In-Plane Switching technology (IPS) provided bright colors and wide viewing angle, and it has a matte finish that reduces glare and reflection. The audio is equally impressive, with four built-in speakers and Dolby Digital Plus Home Theater surround sound that also offers plenty of volume and bass with minimal distortion.

The backlit keyboard is the same, chiclet-style model we saw Acer VN7-591G-75S2, with red glowing letters and matte-black finish. No adjustment for the intensity or the color of the backlight, but still excellent keyboard, with abundant vertical travel, and a pleasantly springy feel. The extra-large touchpad offers excellent motion control support for Windows, but for gaming you'll want a separate gaming mouse.

Features
The premium version of Aspire V15 Nitro has the same range of ports and connections of the cheaper models. On the right you will find three USB 3.0 ports, a full-size HDMI-out port, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and a headset jack. The left side has a Kensington lock slot, while an SD card slot is located on the front side of the system. Wireless connections include Bluetooth 4.0 and dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi, although at this price I would expect to see faster and more reliable 802.11ac offered.

Inside, the storage is both fast and loose, thanks to a 256GB solid-state drive (SSD) paired with a larger 1TB hard drive. The first provides a fast boot drive, while the second offers spacious storage for all your games and media.

While most gaming systems in this price range is relatively free of pre-installed apps and bloatware, Acer will have some extra load on the system apps. You'll see a small number, such as retail apps from Amazon and eBay, with more useful apps like Amazon's Kindle Reader, Evernote, and some other debris. System also included Nvidia GeForce Experience, which provides a single dashboard for installing and updating the drivers for the graphics card, with some cooked-in features, such as Shadowplay, for recording and video sharing during gameplay, GameStream, for use with Nvidia Shield, and Battery Boost, which offers the best gameplay and battery life for on-the-go gaming. Acer Aspire covers Nitro V15 with one-year warranty.
