Evesham Voyager C720

Evesham Voyager C720
We've just seen two laptops that can match the Evesham Voyager C720 for speed, and not a single one can be outdrive. With a WorldBench 5 score of 98, the Voyager is a worthy Gold award winner for its performance alone.

A Pentium M 770 processor and 1GB of DDR RAM is largely responsible for the excellent WorldBench rating, but there was one other major part in the outcome: the graphics card.

Previously we've seen the Dell Inspiron XPS M170 laptop use 256MB GeForce Go 7800 GTX card to great effect. But the C720 takes up the challenge from which stop Dell, and squeezes a few more fps (frames per second) out of 7800.

In Doom3 the Evesham managed 106.4fps, and achieved 110.3fps to mix with a resolution of 1,024x768, Dell beat by 3fps and 10fps respectively.

The 17in screen is good, with a resolution of 1,440x900, which is slightly surprising given AJP, the M575A model is based on exactly the same chassis, opt for 1,920x1,200. It would have pushed the price up, admittedly, but I think the quality of the reproduction screen ultra-high resolution and would have received 7800 GTX.

That's something Dell XPS was obtained in Evesham, but - by not opting for higher screen resolution - the C720 price is £ 400 less than the Inspiron, a tidy saving. Considering the two laptops are otherwise quite similar defined, the deals are starting to look better and better. It may not have the stylish design of the Dell, but it's not exactly ugly or clunky, either.

The software bundle is impressive, and the strong three-year warranty includes one year of onsite cover.
