Toshiba Tecra C50-B1503
The Toshiba Tecra C50-B1503 ($ 699.99) is a SMB laptop with solid components and practical looks reasonably priced. Sometimes you just need a laptop to do the job, and that's what you've got here. It's not too expensive, and it has the power and battery life to adapt to many office workers, and for this we award our Editors Choice 'for laptops for small-to-medium-size businesses.
Design and Features
The Tecra C50 chassis-B1503 is a very dark gray and almost-black polycarbonate, with pointed caps Molded pattern for extra grip. While a bit utilitarian, the laptop still looks modern, with some tapering at the front edge. You'll find a good selection of I / O port on the side, along with the Ethernet jack, an SD card reader, a USB 2.0 port, two USB 3.0 ports, and VGA port. There is also a built-in DVD burner. Wireless connectivity is by way of 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0, which allows you to connect to a wide range of the latest wireless hotspot and smart devices.
The 15.6-inch, 1366-by-768-resolution LED backlit LCD, for even light, and it has an anti-reflective coating. May seem limited in resolution to set up a business development on the Web, but it is perfectly fine for clerical work in Word and PowerPoint. You will not find a touch screen on this system, but it ships with Windows 7 Professional pre-loaded, so not too much of an issue. This license applies to Microsoft to install Windows 8.1 Pro on the same machine, and Toshiba DVD includes return if you want to use the newer OS.
The non-backlit keyboard is comfortable, but there are key flatter and more slippery than the one on the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E431. The space bar is also a bit narrow in proportion to the wide keyboard deck. Lack balance the added convenience of a full 10 key numeric keypad, which Lenovo E431 and other competitors such as Acer Aspire E5-471G-53XG and Lenovo Z40 deficiency.
The system has 4GB of memory and a 500GB, 5,400rpm hard drive. That means it is slower when you launch the program and reboot the system than newer Ultrabooks solid-state drives (SSDs), but it's plenty fast when everything is loaded and active. The hard drive is no bloatware, and the only extra is a 30-day trial subscription to Norton Internet Security and one-month trial for Office 365. The removable battery is a nice throwback. This allows you to replace the battery with a fresh one as soon as it can not hold a charge. The system has a one-year warranty.
